Hello

What is EIM Haiti? Good question. Some have described it as an English school, a leadership institute, a volunteer program, and a family. The truth is, it’s all of those things!

EIM started in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. Foreign aid workers wanted to learn some Kreyol, while local adults wanted to learn and improve their English – a skill that’s highly valued in Haiti, so a simple language exchange was born.

As different foreigners traveled in and out, the Kreyol classes became repetitive, meanwhile, the dedicated group of Haitian students progressed rapidly. Soon levels were introduced, as well as a textbook, and before we knew it, we had a fullblown English school on our hands.

While foreigners taught the classes at first, the goal was always to transition to local leadership and by January 2012, the US and British volunteers that formed EIM left the country, leaving the school in the capable hands of Brunel and our all-Haitian staff of teachers.

Today EIM is considered one of the highest quality English programs in the country with over 200 students and 16 part-time employees. Over the years we’ve expanded beyond English to provide vocational training, job placement, leadership development, and a robust exchange program where we host dozens of foreign volunteers as they take part in both teaching and tourism activities, seeing a different side of this incredible country.

Thanks for stopping by! We’d love to share more about our future plans and see you in Haiti soon!

Director and Principal of EIM Haiti

Our Teachers

At EIM, we’re proud to have a dedicated staff of Haitian teachers,
90% of whom are graduates of the program.

  • Enock

Assistant Principal Jean Louis Pierre Enock (or Nocky as we call him), is a bright, hard-working leader in our EIM community. Despite having never learned English before EIM, Nocky caught on quickly and moved up the ranks. His dedication and leadership caught our attention and he was quickly promoted to both a teacher and AP.
  • Richardson

Richardson Jean is an EIM graduate whose hard work and love of English propelled him quickly through our ranks to become one of our longest serving teachers. Outside of class Richardson is studying accounting and is an avid reader and self-admitted English nerd, whose passion for learning and teaching is contagious.
  • Elza

A proud working mom, Elza Jean Charles brings both organization and calm to her classroom and beyond. During her time at EIM, she’s proven herself to be a loyal and dedicated member of our school and a role model for her fellow female students where she heads up our formative women-only Beginner class!
  • Alex

Between French, Kreyol, English, Spanish and Portugese, Alex Belton is a master of languages. Alex has years of experience in teaching and tutoring and we’re lucky he’s part of our staff! An EIM graduate, Alex heads up our Advanced 1 class. Beyond being a linguist, he’s also one of the sweetest people ever.
  • Omene

The extremely bright Omene Sainvilier has one of the best academic records at EIM and we’re lucky to have her as a teacher at EIM! She works with Elza to make sure our female students are getting all the attention they need to succeed. Beyond teaching, Omene is an aspiring politician and frequent volunteer.
  • Lepty

Having spent years studying and working in the US, Lepty Lambert puts both his teaching skills and cultural understanding to work in the classroom, helping his Advanced 2 students find fluency. A talented interpreter, Lepty also worked with Conan O’Brien on his trip to Haiti in early 2018. See him in action here!
  • Omega

Omega Rigaud is one of Brunel’s first teachers back when classes were being held inside an old church. At EIM, he holds down our Elementary class. A lover of idioms, Omega is not just a great teacher he’s also a great writer and uses his creativity to help him in and outside the classroom.
  • Wilckens

As a dedicated tutor, Julien Wilckens has transformed dozens of shy, new students into confident English speakers. These transformations occur through Wilckens’ hard work and patience, specifically with our Beginner students. As our oldest teacher, Wilckens has become a role model to many. Outside of class, he’s also a skilled tailor.
  • Ony

With his bright, bubbly personality, Ony Delca Jude is a favorite among EIM students and volunteers. A dedicated scholar since 2012, Ony graduated our program in 2017 and was an easy choice for teacher-in-training. Having proven himself in the classroom, he received his own class in 2018!

Kamila Prokop is the President of our Board with a focus on new business and partnerships. Based in LA, Kamila is also the Executive Producer of the creative studio DIVISION7. She once hiked from Furcy to Jacmel in record time (with a record number of blisters to show for it.)

Mai Fujiwara came on a volunteer trip with EIM back in 2015. She then led a trip. And another. And another… Home in NYC Mai runs her own commercial production company. As our Exchange Director she makes sure every detail of each of our trips is considered, down to the perfect tap-tap playlists.

Christine Greeley

Christine Greeley is EIM’s Marketing Director, helping us find our voice on social media and beyond. As a VP of Brand and Content Marketing at Feeding America, Chrissy has a lot of experience in this area. She also has a lot of experience riding motos through the streets of PAP.

A special needs teacher from Chicago, Emily Thies is EIM’s Education Director. She visits Haiti twice a year to conduct teacher training and oversee our annual exam period. Always enthusiastic, Emily is also a master of competitive themed events.
